ie OREGON STATESMAN, Salem. Orego&Tlntfsdar Morning, July 24, 1930 PAGE TEN Worthwest MMdl REILLY MEETS S Karasick Wins From Harry . Demetral in Thrilling Final Coup Two Important announcements featared the wrestling show at the armory Wednesday night, somewhat rivaling In interest the main event Itself, In which Al Karasick won In spectacular fa shion after each grappler had won a fall. Karasick pinned Harry De- metral, oeeiy unicaguan, mm cradle hold after breaking an In cipient Boston crab, duplicate of one by which Demetral had taken the second fall. The announcements were: 1. The much, discussed main Tent for Art Reilly and Sammy Tangier is definitely on for next Wednesday night, according to Matchmaker Harry Plant. 2. Competition in a tourna ment for the northwest middle- ' weight championship will start at ' Albany next Monday nifht with Krnie Arthur of Salem and Harry v Elliott of Eugene blled tor tbe fli'st match. The handsome gold f embossed belt, put up by Matt Matheny, Albany matchmaker, will -' hi tt stake but a long series of 'bouts will take place before it is anv s-rannler's property. It may be competed for anywhere in the northwest, and Salem win get some of the matches. Fans Get Money's Worth This Time The Karasick-Demetral bout was rougher and more convincing than the one they staged a wees before. After an excessively rough 13 minutes and 2 seconds of grap pling, Karasick took the first fall with a series of rabbit punches apd headlocks ending with Deme tral's shoulders pinned to the mat. Demetral seized a leg split op porFunity early in the second round and converted it into a Boston crab, and Karasick pound ed the mat for his first time in Salem, In three minutes. 10 sec onds. , In a grueling third round De metral hung on numerous punish ing arm holds, almost wrecking the Russian's stub of a hand, but Karasick broke each one though he seemed on the defensive most . of the time. Finally after 16 min utes Demetral essayed the crab hold again but before he settle down on it. Karasick grabbed a double handful of canvas, rocked forward to throw the Greek off balanee I then toppled him over, tied him In a knot with the cradle hold and pinned his shoulders. There's real promise for a, re juvenation of the upholstered mitten fame In Salem in the not distant future, and it rests in the personality of "Cowboy" Warren, who has an idea, he'd like to make Salem his home. This former cow nurse has the record of a victory over Pete Lat- 16 though Latzo knocked him out in their first engagement. War ren took the second bout by a de cision. He also has met some oth- er Dig snots, Warren's settling In Salem is contingent upon his getting a Job. We undent and that he doesn't insist oncow punching as an occupation.
