will be Introduced at the frolic.
The Frolle, sponsored by the Le

cast and the beginning of actual

a varied entertainment to the

. GOLF Will SIT
VANCOUVER, B. C. June 12.
(AP) At least 50 profession
als and amateurs will start teeing
off for the first 38 holes of the
annua Pacific Northwest open
golf championship over the
Shannghnessy golf club course
here tomorrow. The second 36
holes will be played Satnrday.
Lte today Frank Dolp, Port
land, P. N. G. A. amateur cham
pion, had not reported, but bis
entry is expected.
The draw for United States en
trants, who predominate, includes:
Ivan Johnson, Tualatin, Ore.,
end Harry Pryke, Calgary.
Curley Houston, Seattle, and
Dr. Rosenblatt, Tualatin, Ore.
Mel Smith, Portland, and Jack
Frsser, Vancouver, B. C.
Neil Christian. Portland, defend
ing champion, and Freddie Wood,
"Vancouver, B. C.
' Joe Mosel, Medford. .Ore., and
A. Bull, Vancouver, B. C.
Herman Hurtienne, Tacoma,
and Lloyd Byerley, Portland.
Hare you eet n ' King of Jazz?"
It will be at the- Fox Elsiaore for
the last time today and without
question it is one of the memor
able pictures of the year; mem
orable for its color, its beauty, It3
gorgeous settings, its music, and
for the really clever acts that are
put on in revue form. There is
the same difference between this
revue and the others which have
been made as there is between
porcelain and crockery.
Paul Whiteman and Lis band
play the "Rhapsody In Blue" in a
fashion that leaves the audience
yctte breathless. Georjre White
gives his Interpretation of "Asleep
in the Deep" and Is unlike any
heard before. John Boles and
Jeanette Loff present beautiful
numbers, and they are not the
only ones there is plenty of such
musical numbers. If Lawrence
Tibbets is not careful Insofar as
vita phone is concerned John Boles
will hold the trump card for sing
ing, yes, and acting, too.
You might guess who is the di
rector of suck a finished produc
tion as "King of Jazz" for it bears
so completely the careful and ar
tistic stamp ot Carl Laemmle.
Whh one more big stick loom
ing up In the batting order to
strengthen a list that has needed
it badly, the Salem Senators will
do battle with the Albany aicos
here Sunday afternoon. The Alcos
I are now leading the Willamette
( Valley league.
I It will be a battle, with the Sen-
ators still "red hot" over the raw
deal thev firmly believe was hand-
ed them at Albany a few weeks
; ago. Not much was said about it
at the time, bat the umpiring that
day was terrible according to the
verdict of all parties, and some
or the decisions against Salem so
putrid the Albany fans booed
them.
Umpires that day were the same
pair who drew the raztberries
here last Sunday, though on that
occasion the breaks went pretty
even for both teams.
Billy BuWlvan
Dae to Report
Billy Sullivan Is the latest re
cruit to the 8enator ranks. He has?
held down first base the major
part of three seasons, and last
year led the Oregon-WashingtoB
league in hitting, with an ave
rage of about .500 most of fae
season.
Billy will arrive today from
Notre Dame, where he bas been
playing regularly on the varsity,
and unless the long train ride baa
temporarily dimmed his batting
eye, he is expected to put some
punch into the local team's attack.
Itia too late for Salejn to make
a bid for the first half champion
ship in the valley league, but the
team will be ready tor a finish
tight the second half.

Proposed legislation to curb or
prohibit roadside advertising was
discussed before members of the
Salem Ad club Thursday noon by
C. A. Sprague.
The proposal of certain wo
men's elubs In Oregon to compel
all advertisements to be placed at
least 1000 feet from the center ot
the highway was held too restric
tive by the speaker who said cer.
taia advertisements had aesthetic
merit in themselves. Education
in contrast to regulation or pro
hibition, was deemed the first
means of improving roadside ad
vertising. Mr. Sprague declared that the
movement to improve the quality
and location of roadside advertis
ing was certainly meritorious. He
characterized the small, haphac
ard signs scattered on various
roadsides, the greatest hindrance
to an attractive highway.
Dr. Henry Morris was named
chairman of the oemmittee for
