Commissioner. 3 11 18 25 Jy 2 9 Fruit preserving operations of the Reld-Murdoch company will in the future le centered in Sa lem, according to an announce ment made Tuesday by 8. P. Stev ens, of Chicago, rice president of the company who is in Salem for two days. The superior quality and flavor of Oregon berries nas caused them to be much in demand in eastern markets, according to Mr. Stev ens. Oregon excells in the pro duction of strawberries, blackber ries, gooseberries, cherries, pears and apples. This fact combined with the low cost of shipment by water to eastern markets, makes Oregon an ideal location for a cannery and preserving plant. Last year the Reid-Murdoch company produced more than $270,000 worth of preserves in Seattle but this year the preserve pack will be largely transferred to the Salem plant.
