Al Karasick, tb Russian lion, .will eome here next Wednesday After all, for a match with Wild cat McCann under Police Gazette rules. It was announced yester day. There has been a lot of de mand for this match and we hope, fans, you're all satisfied. McCann told as Wednesday might that this staff a boat his be lag too tiny to battle the bold, bad natulan was all pif fle. The Wildcat said he bad beatea John- Aaderaoa of Salt Lake City, who once apoa a time beat Karanlck. Anderson, accord ins; to McCann, is so tough the local matchmaker at Halt Lake City can't get bins any matches. Anderson has also beatea Ira Dern, Dr. Sar polis and Billy Edward. " Furthermore, McCann favored us with a glimpse of a picture of himself In the ring with Gus Kal lia, world middleweight cham pion. Now. if McCann was good enough to meet the middleweight king, he should be entitled to a match with a 177 pounder, even it h does gire away 15 pounds or ' ad. And by the way McCann wants a real strenuous work out Saturday night at 8 o'clock in tbe armor), and invites any body la town, no matter how big, to come out and tussle with him. So crowding, please. , This stuff about Vic Potter beating McCann is all wrong, too, the little Scotch Mexican avers. McCann was billed to wrestle somebody else who didn't show up, and they shoved him onto the mat against Potter for what he understood was to be an exhibi tion. Potter got hurt a circum stance local fans can well under stand and tbe-matchmaker gave Potter the bout. The Wildcat had beaten Potter previously at New berg, and has clippings to prove It. It's all right. Wildcat, nobody's going to suspect Potter of being able to throw you. You know, we used to know a Vic Potter up In the Puget Sound country, but aft er seeing this lad perform, we didn't bother to go up and Bee if he was tbe same guy. These Police Gazette rules well, fans, thoe of you who iave weak hearts had better itay away. Yesterday We Saw Traces of two attempts to sow grain on the downtown streets. There was a trail of barley which evidently had leaked out of a truck, on Ferry street between Front and Commercial. A similar trail of cracked wheat led out of tbe alley between Commercial and Liberty onto State and then east ward. COAST LEAGUE At Stockton 2; Portland 0 At m A ore lea 5; Hollywood 7. Rockefeller, who rep resents the older school In golf, uses clubs with short shafts and swings his wooden , clubs just -as he does his Irons. Bill Potts, vet eran golf professional who spert 11 years at Ormond Beach where Mr, Rockefeller has him home, explained the short shafts. ."Mr. Rockefeller makes no change in his swing for his woods and irons, so he has the shafts shortened In the woods. Outside of this he takes the clubs as they come and is not very particular about them. He leaves them in the shop Just like the other golfers. "The most striking thing about his game is the slowness of the back swing. No pro will ever have to tell him to take the club back slowly. As he starts back and con tinues to the top of the swing it looks like a slow motion picture. "But for a man of hbj years," said Bill, who is now getting his Briar Hills club In shape for the approaching campaign.-"Mr. Rock efeller is quite a golfer. Yes, quite a golfer." If an international husband and wife golf foursome shouUTTe agitated it might be well not to challenge the British. C. V. L. Hooman, former Walker Cup player, and Mrs. Hooman, tbe former Mrs. W. A. Gavin, should be able to give a good account of themselves in any competition ar raying family against family, with brothers and sisters barred to keep out Roger Wethered and Miss Joyce Wethered. Mrs. Hoo man won the Canadian and Bel gian women's championships and was three times runner-up In the women's championship of the United States. Walter Hagen, who has been winning golf championships large and small for 16 years, has found the winter long and cold. The British Open champion hag won only a few dollars, not enough to pay his caddies, as the golf cara van has wound through the Far West. A change in climate and time may do bis game some good so he will tour Australia, one of the few countries he has not visit ed, and gradually work himself In shape for the defense of the Brit ish title he won last spring for the fourth time. No matter how ill his golfing luck may be at ov ertimes and other places he must be reckoned a serious contender for the British crown. "The Haig" has a chance to make a modern record by win ning the championship three years in succession. This trick has not O Business I O- AUCTIONEERS F. N. Woodry IS Trs.
