MUSIC HALL IS FILLED FDR EYEfJT Jefferson People Turn Out To Hear Operetta Di rected by Woman JEFFERSON, March 7 The Hasonle hall was filled to capa city to enjoy the operetta, "Pol ished Pebbles" which was given try the Jefferson high school Tuesday night under the direc tion of Mrs. J. O. Van Winkle. Dallia Harris was stage man ager. The scenery was very un usual, the painting being done try Gilbert Spragg. A three-piece orchestra consisting of Jean Smith, piano, Melvin Clodfelter, iolln and Gilbert Spragg, sousa Thone furnished the music for the occasion. There was a great deal of work In connection with this production to prepare it well, and it was with- pride that the Indents, with their efficient leader gare this entertainment; and they are to be commended for Its fine production. HUB PUT OH BIG CONTEST HAZEL. GREEN, March 7 The Christian Endeavor society will hare a contest between the girls and boys. The supper for the winners to be cooked by the losing side. Mrs. Merle Stewart interestingly described the schools of the early days of Oregon and the schools of the present day were discussed at roll call, "Schools and Colleges of Oregon." Ella Stauffer sang, "One Song So Sweet" responding to encore with "To Be Together," accom panied by Mrs. Neva McKenile at the piano. The secret was disclosed by the names written on red heart hid' den in a wishing well, which serv ed aa a center-piece for the table. Miss McKee is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McKee of Jef- torson, and a graduate of the Jefferson high school. Carrol la the son of Mr. and Mrs. v, It. Carrol of Kelso. Wash., and a graduate of the Kelso Mgh school. March 7 The 8unnyslde community club met in regular session to transact business, and to plan a carnival to be held aome time In .April. The meeting then adjourned tor. the program. The pictures were ,rery Interesting and instructive,' . and delighted the audience. . , A group of young people nave organized an orchestra, and are coming tine. They gave several selections during the moving pic ture program and received much applause. The latent talent of the community is coming to the fore. The young people also pre sented two skits of their play which they are preparing for March 14. Guy Chandler and family who have been living at Vancouver, Wash., have returned to this community and will take up their residence on the George Shand farm. Leave For Twin Falls Mr. and Mrs. Fred Murray left Saturday for Twin Falls, Idaho, where they will spend some time visiting with friends and relatives. Mr. Murray has conducted the grocery store oni the corner of Broadway and Pa cific Highway at Sunnyslde. Farmers are sowing spring grain and plowing gardens. Gen eral activities are showing in fields of orchard and berry. C. H. Taylor was drawn on the federal Jury at Portland, which lnterferred with a contemplated trip to California. HUBBARD WELL EM 1 Only One Fails to Be Re named at Hubbard; Econ omy Forces Cut HUBBARD, March 7 With one exception the entire faculty of the Hubbard school was re elected at the meeting of the board of directors Tuesday eve ning. The exception was caused by a consolidation of the first and second grades with Mrs. Lorena Duncan, teacher, thus lowering the cost of employment with the idea of freeing the district of debt. The faculty includes J. R. Bid good, principal; Miss Adeline Fields, English and French: Mrs. Nellie Cornell, commercial; Ar thur Myers, seventh and eighth grades; Mrs. Lottie Fry, fifth and sixth grades; Mrs. Arthur Myers, third and fourth grades, and Mrs. Lorena Duncan, first; and second grades.
