Both Willamette and Whitman have clean slates in Northwest conference play, although each has played only two conference games. After piling up a wide lead on points through three quarter of the battle, the cagey, veteran Slattery ran into a wild overhand swing late in the 13th round that all but finished him. A volley of punches deaped him over the middle ring rope, but he managed to wobble through the round when the over-anxious Scozza failed to land cleanly.'
