ASTORIA, Ore., Jan. 28 (AP) Stella Jones, 11 - year - old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Jones of Dahlia, Wash., was rest ing easily at a hospital here to night after a hazardous trip across the Ice filled mouth of the. Columbia river Saturday night ' and Sunday morning. The child, suffering from a se vere attack of appendicitis, was carried half a mile over the ice from Dahlia Saturday night. She was then placed in the launch En terprise, which Captain M. J. Lar son had piloted from Astoria. Lar sen was forced to penetrate loose Ice for almost two miles and to break through solid pack for a quarter mile before stretcher bearers with the girl could reach him. The launch arrived here at 2 a.m., Sunday and a successful operation was performed.
