A Christmas Sermonette
Peace on Earth
By MARTIN FERREY
(Minister, Unitarian Church.)
"Peace on earth, good will toward men," Is given to us as
part of the song of the Angels heard by the lowly shepherd.?.
These words express the objective of the Christian religion. And
yet we find so mueh misunderstanding as time after time from
the pulpits, platforms and many other places the question Is
asked "Has Christianity Failed?"
One great obstacle towards the fulfilment of the Christian
hope is that for centuries men have looked everywhere outside
of their own lives for the Kingdom of Heaven. They have expect
ed to find peace beyond the grave and the kingdom everywhere
except where Jesus taught that his followers would find It
within their own hearts and among themselves.
I have seen worn faces; anxious faces rushing here and
there making purchases. I have heard "O, ilwill be so glad when
Christmas is over!" Such persons have forgotten the spirit for
the temporal satisfactions.
Peace in the world may only be found when peace Is first
enthroned in' the heart.
Good will to all men will bring that peace. Not a passing
good-fellowship giving costly presents .and then wishing to for
get about it or worrying as to how one should pay for them,
but a good-radiating sympathy, kindness, understanding so
much so that each one being a kingdom of God will ultimately
transform the world. v
The Christ spirit is a perpetual gift to humanity. Only we
all must pray and learn to appreciate It. Let us remember that
all men and women are children of one Father. Let us wish to all
a Merry Christmas. Our smiling faces, sincere greetings and the
good will we feel within will be worth more than mechanical
illumination. Christmas Is an eminently saered and holy occa
sion. Let each ot us help realize that in this our city Salem
city of peace.

"Many things impressed me

said, but my fondest recollection
was that of Theresa Neumann at
Konnersreuth, Bavaria.
"Theresa Neumann, the stigma

Christ In her own body. I saw and
examined the open wounds in her
hands," the speaker continued,
'and I speak to you as I saw her
during my four days visit at Kon

fester as do other sores on her
body which have shown to be
quite susceptible to Infection. The
