Ten to Compete irv Finals Fop Atwater Kent Awards Tens of thousands of young fingers throughout the country are expected to listen eagerly to the program of the Atwater Kent radio hour Sunday evening De cember 16, when it will present the ten finalists of the third na tional . radio audition, in which the young listeners themselre? participated. It will be broadcast over KGW. KGO, KOMO at 6:15 p. m. At the conclusion of the program, or very shortly thereaf ter, a board of seven famous mu sicians and musical authorities will annonnce their verdict as to the order in which the ten voices rank. Their judgment will deter mine the distribution of cash awards totaling f25,O00. and ten musical scholarships, offered by the Atwater Kent foundation of Philadelphia, sponsors of this nation-wide search for undiscovered musical talent. The ten young winners who will be heard are: Calvin Hendricks, the blind bar itone of Los Angeles. Floy Louese Hamlin, soprano, Of Los Angeles. Frances Tortorich, soprano, of New Orleans. Genevieve Irene Rowe, soprano of Wooster. O. Agnes L. Skillin, soprano, of Springvale, Me. - Josephine Louise Antolne, so prano, of Boulder, Colo. John Jameson, tenor, of Den Ter. Edward Austen Kane, tenor, of Atlanta. Charles E. Carlisle, tenor, of Central Falls. R. I. Carlyle William Bennett, tenor of Chicago. These ten young singers are the survivors of a series of nation wide tests, conducted by the At water Kent foundation, which have been in progress since May. These included local auditions in one thousand communities; state auditions In every state and five geographical district auditions. The best young man and best young woman singers of the local competitions were sent to the state audition. The best young man and best young woman of each state test qualified for their district audition. The best two lagers, one young man and one young woman, in the district tests became the finalists to be heard In the national audition on this evening. In all of the preliminaries, the opinion of the radio listeners, ex pressed by ballot, has counted 60 per cent in the decisions as to the qualifications of the young sing ers, with the opinion of profes sional boards of judges counting 40 per cent. In the national finals "board of internationally known murical authorities will be the judges and their decision will be announced immediately after the finals so that the entire continent may know the result promptly.
