' t The OREGON STATESMAN, Salem, Orc,on, Saturday Morning, November 23, 1929 PAGE THREE 1 . ' Society Drama League to Present Play Dec. 17 The date of the Drama League play, "Wappin' Wharf," three act comedy of sea faring folk, pirates and royalty, will be give Decem ber 17 at the Grand theatre com mencing promptly at 8:20 o'clock. The first date set for December IS was In conflict with the McDow ell dab program and therefore was changed to December 17. Work on the play is progressing tery happily and satisfactorily. The lines of the play are so amus ing and the character work Is so realistic that the work of rehears als Is less tedious than the work on many plays. It is interesting to learn that the Newark Art theatre in 'New ark, New Jersey, played "Wappin Wharf" Nov. 20 as the first of a group of five plays which they will give this year. The Newark Art theatre is. modeled after the Pasadena, California, Community Playhouse which has done so much toward the advancement of little theatre work. The purpose of the Newark theatre is given as "to present plays which make little appeal to the commercial stage, giving them tlje benefit of the best and most modern produc tions possible." The plays which they are pre senting in addition to "Wappin Wharf" are Ibsens' "The Lady From the Sea"; Sierra's "The Two Shepherds"; Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and George Colman's "The Heir at Law." Mrs. William Merriott is. busy with her r fc arranging j stage materials fo. Je coming play. Any cooperatioivwhich anyone can give in the way of matreials will be gladly received by the group.
