Mcintosh was presented with a lovely angel food cake in honor of his iOth birthday. The cake had catfdles on it in the form of a star. Mr. Mcintosh was great ly surprised and "pleased. The Rebekah' lodge of Inde pendence entertained the Rebek ah chapter of Monmouth Tuesday evening. - Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Mcintosh were visited over the week-end by Mrs. J. A. Martin of Portland, niece of Mrs. Mcintosh, and her son James. The Delphlnian club met Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Asa Bi Robinson. They are studying " the--reek drama "Oedi pus the King." Prather and Clarence E. Purvine were united in marriage Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist parson age. Both were former residents of Independence and Miss Pra ther was a graduate of the high school here. . Witnesses were: Styphen Benedict and Mrs. Erma Conger. Rev. G. G. Langhlin, director of evangelism of the state of Ore gon, and W. E. Henry of Mc Minnville will conduct a confer ence on evangelism at the First Baptist church next Friday after noon at 2:30. Mrs. F. C. Gunning left today for San Francisco' for a week's visit with her only brother, Ned Durfee and wife, also Mrs. Marie Lathern and family. Mrs. Lathern is a niece of Mrs. Gunning and made her home with her aunt a number of years when a young girl. This la a newly founded group and is not as yet thoroughly or ganized. To aid in formulating their plana the elnb haa engaged Mrs. W. E. Anderson and Mrs. Ot to Paulis, -prominent members of the Salem dramatic organization, to speak to them. -The officers of the club are president. Mrs. EnM Wolf; vice president, Mrs. Elma Haveman and secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Florence Gibbons. The club not onlv intends to produce plays but it will also study them from the literary point of view.
