meeting of the community club
was held Friday evening with 200
present.

Thia is the third time Dr. Hill
has visited the communty club and
at the request of the children
showed his animal school picture
which was received with as much
enthusiasm as when . shown the
first time.

Doukhobors now
Staging Hunger,
Strike in Prison
VANCOUVER B. C. Oct. 12
(AP) Alter weeks of passive re
sistance, the 104 Doukhobors now
serving prison sentences of six
months each at Oakalla prison
farm near here have entered upon
a hunger-strike, it was reported
today. Warden Walter Owen,
who is in charge of the farm,
would neither confirm nor deny
the report.
The Doukhobors, including men
and women, were sentenced at
sou, B. J., August 29, toiiowing
nude parades staged near South
Slocan, and were transported to
Oakalla by special train. Unoffi
cial advices from the prison farm
were that the prisoners worked
listlessly or not at all when taken
to the fields.

then three hours after the Jury

Mrs. Eunice Bagby, Portland,
was sentenced to CO days in Clat
sop county jail here today follow
ing her conviction by a Jury in
justice court Thursday night on a
charge of drunken driving.

Orpheum Circuit
Word has been received that
Newell Hurst, 20 year old son of
A. R. Hurst, who has been study
ing with Earl Wallace in the Earl
Wallace dance studio In Los An
geles, has been booked by the Ra
dio Keith Orpheum circuit in an
adagio number wih a quintette
of two girls and three men.
They are playing now for two
weeks in the New Orpheum the
atre in Los Angeles before start
ing east where they will appear
under contract.
Hurst is a local boy having
worked here, and during 1927 he
studied with Barbara Barnes in
the Barbara Barnes school of the
dance. Miss Barnes and Hurst
made an adapio team which ap
peared quite often locally.
