The St. Faul Union high school opened Monday, September 30 with a reg istration of 43 pupils, 13 less than last year. Herbert Michelbrook. vbo has been principal for several years is back again. Miss Dorothy Kiel, the science teacher of last year, is also back; but St. Paul high has a new commercial teach er. Miss McGrath. Miss Alice Davidson is the prin cipal of the St. Paul grade- school and Misa Loretta Gooding is as sistant teacher. About two miles from St. Paul, at tho Four Corner school hoiuo, Miss Helen Cooke is teacher. Last year Miss Ursula Mc Donald filled -the position. Miss Cecelia, Kirsc'i and her mother, Mrs. Frank Kirsch of St. Paul, left for San Francisco, where Miss Kirsch Is to become the bride of Mr. Russell Gooding, formerly of St. Paul. Miss Octavia PeHand, who has been working at Klamath Falls, was home vi&Iting with her pati ents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Pelland for two weeks. Every fall immediately after the onions are harvested, the owners of the beav er dam ground commence the re placement of the worn-out tiling. Oftin whole fields are comDletoly re-tiled. The depth at which they are placed varies from three to seven feet, depending upon the natural slope of the land in rela tion to the waste ditch and its elevation. C, from 150 to 400 persons, It was re ported today. Some 150 members of the Sons of Freedom sect were taken to Porto Rico recently after they had been arrested for refusing to give up their encampment on the out skirts of Nelson, where they had gathered In protest to the arrest and Imprisonment of more than 100 of their number, who had staged a nude parade at South Slocan. The Nelson encampment was condemned as unsanitary. The Porto Rico settlement was offered to the fanatical group by law-abiding Doukhobors. S. F. (AP) After paddling 2500 miles in canoe and rubber boat up and down streams and rivers of the Arctic region and portaging 100 miles over the summit of the Ca nadian Rockies within the Arctic circle, Amos Burg returned to his home here today. He plan3 to spend several weeks here, writing several articles on his trip and arranging several reels of motion pictures as well as some 1000 still pictures taken on the long jour ney. Lester Hooper and his brother, John, left Monday morning on a hunting trip in Washington, near St. Hel ens. He is also connected with the P. E. P. Co., there. Dallas Loses Water Works Suit DALLAS, Oct. 9 H. V. Gates, lessee of the city water works has secured a judgment against the city for costs in the suit brought against him by the city council. This suit was brought to bave Gates appoint an appraiser to meet with one selected by the ci ty, they to select the third party to determine the value of the wa ter system, preparatory to the pnrchase of Gates interest by the city.
