Mr. Da Tis has asked the school board to extend his schedule that he may continue the counseling and place ment work which he has worked successfully for the past several years,' This work requires much of the Instructor's summer time and be feels he cannot continue it without compensation. June 15 The Woman's Relief Corps held its reg ular meeting in the Odd Fellow's hal Thursday afternoon. After the regular business ses sion they observed Flag day with a fitting- program in charge of Mrs. Mary Hershberger. The pro gram opened with an appropriate song by Irene Bontrager accom panied by her sister Shirley at the piano; reading by Marjorie Wright; piano soro by Shirley Bontrager; vocal duet, John and Jack Beck. Rita Becker at the piano. At the conclusion of each number the young artists were presented with a beautiful bouquet of roses. The committee in charge of the meeting was Miss Jessie Allen, Mrs. Maymle Allen, Mrs. Elixa- beth Glatt and Mrs. Lottie Live- say. Mr. Gardner was about 07. years old . and' had been, a "resident of Stayton for the past 20 years or more, coming here from Baker, Oregon, where he had consider able property interests. For a number of years Mr. Gardner was associated with W. H. Hobson In a general racrchap dise store. Mr. Hobson retired, but Mr. Gardner continued the business until 1922. when the business district of Stayton suf fered a severe fire and Gardner's store was among the establish ments destroyed. He suffered a considerable ' loss as he owned other . property than that which he occnnled which was also de stroyed. Decedent was always actively identified with lodge, church and civic affairs. He is survived by his wife. Mrs. Marina Gardner. a daughter, Mrs. Mable Fryer, of Salem. Oregon ; a son, O. E. Gardner, ot Stayton; two grand children. Janet Fryer and val Gardner.
