FTtHE Salem Hunt club has a very well equipped
JL riding academy, sponsored by business men
and interested women of Salem.. This new organ
ization brings another triumph to Salem. It is
one more thing to bring her up to the level of
Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. We can
lean forward now here in Salem and read with in
terest that Portland folk are journeying Jo Seat
tle for the Seattle Riding and Driving club horse
show and are taking with them horses to enter as
an exchange courtesy with Seattle.
Soon Salem will be in a position to do the
same thing and attract the same courtesy from
both Portland and Seattle. With a bit more time
to prepare Portland Hunt club would have been
down with horses forthe formal opening in Salem
Saturday night. As it is there will be interested
members from there here for the event.
Already classes and riders are being trained
for the fall horseshow which promises to eclipse
those of the past years. A number of Hunt club
members will own their own mounts and the time
will not be far off when we, too, will be exhibit
ing horses in Pacific coast shows. If we were
ready to journey down to Flintridge, California,
for their annual horseshow May 24-25 there is no
doubt as to the advertisement which would come
to Salem.
The farmers of the vicinity are showing
much interest in the club and a great many stock
raisers are planning on stocking their stables with
better sires that they may take advantage of the
growing demand of the local market.
Sunday, May 26, fourteen riders will ride in
the cross country hunt over a sports course
through the Waldo Hills. The course is laid over
a picturesque setting of rolling hills, old rail
fences and shady lanes running through marshy
meatus to a quarter of a mile finish where ev
ery rider will race in full view to the goad line.
Trophies will be presented the winners a silver
vase to the men from the Chevrolet Motor com
pany, and a silver cup to the men from Eoff Elec-
trie, Inc.
Saturday night the grand opening of the Sa
lem Hunt club will be held in the state fairgrounds
pavilion. It will cost 25 cents to see a three hours
program of riding, and features. The proceeds
will go toward the first money in the treasury of
the club which will be needed for trophies, for
building bridal trails and many other essentials
necessary for a successful Hunt club.
That the Salem Hunt club is appreciated for
what it can do for Salem is demonstrated by the
fact that there are firms appearing on this page
as advertisers that never appear on special pages
. and have done so here only because they felt the
value to Salem of the thing advertised.
