One of the most Interesting
meetings of the year for the bus.
IneM and Professional Women's
clnb was that of Thursday night,
at the Woman's clubhouse when
the mothers of the members and
friends were entertained. The clnb
bonse had been artistically dec
orated with spring flowers and ar
ranged most attraetlTely for the
evening party.
Stunts formed the main part of
.the entertainment with the organ
ixatlon being divided into groups
each of which presented a stunt.
The nominating committee won
the prise which will be presented
at the next meeting of the hud.

discussions to be held Saturday

The Liberty Woman's club held
Its final meeting of the year last
Thursday at the home of Mrs. F.
L. Scott. There was a record at
tendance. A picnic luncheon, was
served at one o'clock followed by
the regular business, including
the election of officers. Mrs. C W.
Holder, president; Mrs. N. J. Fair,
vice-president and Mrs. Al Brown
secretary-treasurer.
Interesting reports on the coun
ty federation meeting were given
by the several delegates. The fol
lowing subjects were discussed
with favor (or study for the com
ing year:- "interior decoration,
"the art . of conversation," and
"foreign correspondence."

en by Helen and Patsy Daach. a
reading by Mrs. Bruce Cunning
ham and .. two vocal numbers by
Mrs. Dorothy Hubbard was a de
lightful climax to a happy after,

Is Luncheon Speaker !
Mrs. Alice Dodd addressed the
lmembers ot the Woman's Alliance
of the Unitarian church at their
regular monthly luncheon meeting
Friday afternoon at the church on
the subject of "Shawls." Because
of having much time in travel in
the Orient and the far east Mrs.
Dodd was able to speak intimately
cn the subject after having made
a comprehensive study of shawls
in many of the countries of which
a'.'c spoke Friday afternoon.
Many of Salem's most beautiful
examples of old and rare shawls
were on display to aid in illus
trating the lecture. Among these
shawls was a hand blocked wool
shawl 100 years old owned by
Hrs. J. Vogt; a Roman stripe, silk
shawl bought in Algiers by- Mrs.
E. C. Cross; a black silk Chinese
shawl embroidered In gorgeous
colors, the property of Mrs. D. J.
Fry, Sr.; a huge Paisley of very
fine weave owned by Mrs. Ed
Rosteln; an exquisite all white
embroidered Chinese shawl and a
black lace Chantilly loaned by
Mrs. Joe Albert, both heirlooms;
a genuine Indian shawl loaned by
Miss Elisabeth Lord and other
kshawls loaned by Mrs. H. J. Cle
ments, Mrs. R. J. Hendricks, Mrs.
C. H. Parks, and Mrs. Alice Dodd.
Shawls were discussed from the
countries of China, India, Persia,
Turkey, Italy, France and Eng
land. This lecture ctiscussion was
one of the most Interesting which
the Alliance has enjoyed for some
lime.
