STREAM'S CALL
Presldent Preparing Fishing
Tackle as Spring Season
Approaches- Vc
... '- 1 X i ;
Br RICHARD I. TURNER
Associated Prca Staff Writer
WASHINGTON. Apr. 5 (AP)
The call of ib troat streams is
becoming laereaslngly clear to
president HooTer these soft
spring days.
Like many another Inreterate
angler lie is derotlng1. odd min
utes to an Inspection of his fish
ing tackle and preparations for
. the season's .first foray against
the flnay denizens of the wood-
land streams. ..And on Saturday,
he hopes to pack np his rod and
reel and a few of his farorite
tiles, pall ea his wading boots and
come to conclusions with his wary
prey.
ChW Has Choke
Qfc Two Places
In the meanwhile, the chief ex
ecutive Is deciding Which of two
fishing preserves he .will visit, the
one on the Rapidaa river la Vir
ginia, or the other in Maryland,
near Frederick. The latter can
be' reached in an hoar and a half
driving, while the Virginia site is
twice as far away."
If he -chooses the Virginia
groundi, his actual fishing will be
limited as on his first visit Jthere
be plans to look the place over
and select a spot where army
' tents may be pitched for his con
venience on ftrture trips. The log
cabin which he has la contempla
tion Is not to be built until next
. year. ,
Holiday Is First ,
Since Iaaagaratiom
la making this trip Satarday
Mr. Hoover will take his first
holiday since his inauguration.
Day after day. he has applied him
self to the problemsj of the gov
ernment and he is looking for
ward with anticipation to the re
creation and fresh air. ....
Steps were taken at the White
House today to see that there Is
no repetition of the lenghy recep
lon line .that shook hands with the
- - JW,yrs'ildent yesterday. Customar
ily, all who come to the White
House with letters of introduction
from 'members , of the house or
senate-. are permitted to file past
the thief executive and grip his
, hand. -' s
Right Head Made
tore and Swollen . - .
Yesterday's reception line num
bered 1,77 6 persons t consumed
more than 40 minutes of the chief
executive's time and left the mus
cles of his hand so sore that he
could not write comfortably for
seven hours. ' Moreover,' the pres
ident feared that it had been too
much of a drain upon his energy
and virgallty.
- And so the White House today
passed the word along to Capitol
. hill that the legislators must con
fine themselves to ten persons for
each of the semi-weekly recep
tions, where yesterday one mem
ber of the senate alone, Copeland
of New York, sent 188 persons.
Originally a daily fixture of the
White House schedule, the recep
tions soon alter Mr. Hoover's in
auguration were cut down to two
each week and in the future he
plans to limit them to one a week.
Off icial Callers
Are Received V

list of . official cauers toaay, in
eluding many visitors from . con
gress. Senator Bingham, repub-
' lican, of Connecticut, called to tell

mittee which is looking into the
problem of a municipal airport
for the national capital.,

seyer, republicans, of Iowa, dis

dent bat would not say anything
upon leaving the White House.
