J..!,.,. J ... The New OREGON STATESMAN, Salem, Oregon, Saturday Morning, March 16, 1929 L-STATE AI Senators MacDonald's Showing in Fi nal Tilt Earns Him First Team Place ALL, TOURNEY TEAMS (Aa picket! by The Statesman) First Team Second Team- Larson, Art. F Melvin, Med. MacDonald, Med.F Gibson, Dalles Lewis, Wash. C Thompson, Ast. UnpMn. Med. a Gannett, Med. Barrett, WaL G Ollnger, McL. (As picked by Coaches and Officials) First Second Team Larson, Ast. MeWln, Med. Lewis, Wash. Morgan, Med. Sarrett, Wal. putDson, Dalles F Inman, Wash. C Thompson, Ast, O Ward, JJalles O Ollnger, McL. By RALPH CURTIS The combined coaches, officials and sport writers of the state tournament, gathering at a lunch eon at the home of "Spec" Keen?, Willamette university athletic mentor, Saturday noon selected first and second all-tournament teams. The Statesman doesn't set the Judgment of its sports department ahead of all those authorities combined, but in view of the fact that the selection was made be fore the final championship game, believes that a difference of opinion Is at least in order. The only difference In the first team is that MacDonald of Med ford is placed instead of Melvin of the same team. MacDonald's shooting really, won. the champion ship for Medford. because he scored when it was anybody's game and nobody else could score. Melvin made some points, but not until they were superfluous, and then only after some running which the officials couldn't see. Lewis of Washington was giv en all but three votes of the of ficials for center; Thompson of Astoria two and MacDonald one For forwards, Larson of Astor ia got 14 votes, Melvin nine, Gib son of The Dalles six. Inman of Washington three. Moffitt of Eu gene two, James of Tillamook and MacDonald one each. There was a wide selection of guards, but Morgan of Medford and Sarrett of Wallowa were far ahead of the field with eleven votes each, dinger of McLough lin got four votes, MacDonald two. Ward of The Dalles two, Gamett of Medford. Thompson of Astoria, James of Tillamook, Ystad of As toria, Gibson of The Dalles and Pesonen of Astoria one each. Either first team would be well balanced, with three charging of fense men in MacDonald or Mel vin, Larson and Sarrett; a decep tive, steady center, Lewis to counterbalance them, and an al most perfect baclcguard, Morgan.
