An excellent progiam is being
prepared, copies of wUich will be
mailed out later. The program
will be similar to those of former
years, with three institute per
iods. The theme of the first, which
will be on Friday afternoon, is
"Building a Lesson." On Satur
day morning the theme Is "Build
ing a Class," and Saturday after
noon "Building a Life."

Plans for the state Christian
Endeavor convention to be hold
in Salem April 18-21 are rapidly
being formed, according to Dr.
David B. Hill, local publicity
chairman for the convention.
"We are expecting oer 1000
delegates, " Dr. Hill reported Fri
day, "so this will be the first big
convention for Salem this year. In

meetings on Sunday."

SILVERTON. Feb. 2. (Spe
cial) Saturday. February 9. is
the date set by the Sirrerton Wo
man's club as "Sllverton Food
Products day." Twenty-seven
prizes will be offered in the bak
ing contest, the rules being that
only Sllverton oatmeal, graham,
bread or pastry flour. Sllverton
fruits, nuts, eggs, milk, batter
and lard must be nsed in the
preparation of all entries.
To receive the grand prize of
ten dollars, offered by the busi
ness men of the city, one must
make entry In each division and
shall have received the most
prizes.
An interesting all day program
has been arranged, which will he
held in the Eugene Field audito
rium. The program is as follows:

Avoid Bad Burn

Steelhammer drive, escaped seri
ous burns on Friday, when her
apron caught fire from the open
stove. She had just lighted the
fire, and had spilled kerosene on
her apron. The flames from the
stove ignited the oil.
Only Mrs. Shepherd's presence
of mind, in rolling the apron and
smothering the flames, saved her
from what might have been a fa
tal accident. Mrs. Shepherd, who
Is nearly 70, was alone at the
time of the accident.

Gets Swift Trial
Although but a brief time ha
elapsed since David J. Pugh, of
Ogden, Utah, confessed to taking
1104,000 .from the state treasur
er' office, he now is a waiter in
the state penitentiary. Pugh, who
wa chief deputy state treasurer,
claims to have bet the money on

cial) The health clinic was held
Thursday at the home of Prof.
Bennett. Thirteen children were
examined by Dr. Russell, assisted
by Miss McAlpine. The dental
clinic was held at the schoolhouse
on Tuesday, with Dr. Drunk and
Miss McAlpine in charge.
Mrs. L. M. Bennett received
word from Nehalem that her
mother is seriousl- ill, and left

Mrs. C. D. Troudt of Glendale
is visiting her mother, Mrs. Anna
Ott and 'her two brothers. Jake
and Isaac Ott of Hubbard. Mrs.
Troudt made the trip to Hubbard
to consult Dr. Edward Schoor but
found the physician too ill to re
ceive patients. Dr. Schoor has been
confined to his home for over a
month.
