Pinto was a steward's yeo man of the Malolo. Witnesses ttjf the shooting prevented the woman f rorc taking her own life after she had killed Pinto. The state with drew its original charge of first degree murder, saying premedita tion on the part of Mrs. De Silva might be difficult to establish. Following the shooting Mrs. De Silva told toolice she had met Pin to in San Francisco and that the man had cared for her, and she for him. After many weeks, she said. Pinto's affection cooled and he told her he cared nothing for her. He sailed on the Malolo. The woman came to Portland, seeking another word with Pinto when she heard the Malolo was to put in here. She visited Pinto on the boat, she said, and his first word was a curse and an insult ing remark. Witnesses today picked the story up from that point. "Yes, that's all that's final." Pinto was quoted as shouting at the woman. He turned away and Mrs. De Silva drew a small revolver from her handbag and shot him. Mr. and ; lire. Ionian ; Parker; program, Mrs. T. J.
