First Meeting of Town and Gown Club The Town and Gown club will hold their first meeting of the club year at Lausanne hall Thurs day afternoon, beginning at 2:30 o'clock. Mrs. C. P. Bishop is presi dent of the club, the object of which is to further the Interests of girls studying at Willamette uni versity. Important business will be disposed of at the meeting, and their will be a short program ar ranged by Mrs. F. G. Franklin. Hostesses for the afternoon will be Mrs. E. E. Gilbert. Mrs. A. E. Vacation Talks at Meeting Thursday Members of the Faculty Wo man's club of Willamette Uni rersity met last Thursday after noon at the home of Mrs. F. M. Erickson. with approximately 50 women present. The informal pro gram Included short talks on va cation experiences by a number of club members. At the tea hour. Mrs. Erickson was assisted by Mrs. Herman C. Clark and Mrs. N. S. Savage. The club, which meets the third Thursday of each month, will hold their November affair, in Lausanne hall. Mrs. Carl Gregg Doney Is president of the Faculty Women. The silver tea and program to be given by the W. C. T. U. this afternoon has been cancelled. Canse returned Sat urday night from Wichita. Kan sas, where she attended the na tional convention of the Woman's Home Missionary society of the Methodist church, held October 10. 17. There were over 300 dele gates to the convention and a large number of visitors. Out standing speakers at the conven tion were Bishop Leete of Omaha.1 Bishop Waldorf fo Topeka, and Mrs. M. L. Woodruff, who is na tional corresponding secretary. Mrs. Canse reported that the to tal membership of the society in all departments now exceeds 462.000. and that the organiza tion raised over 33,000,000 last year. An interesting sidelight on the convention given by Mrs. Canse was that several women took fur coats to the convention in expecta tion of cold weather, but thermo meters registered about 90 de grees during the convention week. The Woman's Bible class of the First Methodist church will hold their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Louisa Koon. 465 Marion street, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The General Ladies' Aid of the First Methodist church will be held in the church parlors Wed nesday afternoon, beginning at 2:30 o'clock, with reports from the Circle chairmen. MacDowell Club Is Entertained Mrs. Arthur Rahn entertained the members of the MacDowell club chorus, and few additional guests, in her home Monday night with an informal radio party. It Is a sweeping drama on a spectacular background of moun tain country. It is a real western, but a western with a poignant hu man story about a man, who was as much of a national hero in nis time as Lftdbergh is in ours. For the first time since e -m filming of "Passion" in 1918 i. Et il Jannings and Ernst Lubitscn were reunited professionally, wltj "The Patriot." Jannings played a strong role in support to Pola Negri in the fa mous picture, and it . was directed by Ernst Lubitsch. The two since have won high fame in their re spective capacities, but bad never made a picture together since that time. When Paramount decided to film "The Patriot," Jannings was given the starring role, and Lu- bltsch was secured to direct it, hence the happy reunion. It's the feature attraction starting Satur day at the Elsinore theatre. East is East, but the twain does meet in "Fazll." Fox Films fea ture production which Is featured at Bligh's Capitol theatre.
