The New OREGON STATESMAN, Salem,; Oregon, Wednesday Morning, October 10, 1928 . 8 IBB ENJOY ; DOUBLE SURPRISE Salem KIwanlans had an unex pected treat at their luncheon Tuesday. To be exact they had two pleasant surprises for early In the course of the luncheon Mrs. Carrie Adams, of Portland, sister of Charles Wilson, secretary of the Salem Chamber of Commerce, -was Introduced and. led the Kiwanlana and their guests In a number of songs. Mrs. Adams Is a musician and chorus director of -note and the manner In which those present responded to her leadership was eloquent evidence of her ability. The other surprise was the sub stitution of Rev. N. K. Tully. fa miliarly known to the flub mem bership as "Parson," for the chief speaker of the day who was un able to be present. Dr. Tully pref aced his remarks by the statement that he merely was "pinch-hitting for another and thai he dirt not want to make a speech any more than those present wanted to hear him make one. . He added that he knew there were present a number of minis ters, lawyers and others .who would be glad to speak If given the chance and that be Intended to use up the time allotted to him In order to avert such a catastro phe. The speaker declared that) he found himself In a quandry ihls year, from a pilltical point of vfew- because he Is unwilling to attempt to ride the republican elephan for fear of slipping off its oil soak ed back, and equally unwilling to attempt to straddle the democra tic donkey while its breath reeks of alcohol. He would be up by urg JO minutes T-$FV ' J - How many people you know end their colds with Bayer Aspirin ! And how often you've heard of its prompt relief of sore throat or tonsilitis. No wonder millions take it for' colds, neuralgia, rheumatism ; and the aches and pains that go with them. The won der is that anyone still worries through a winter without these tablets I They relieve quickly, yet have no effect whatever on the heart. Friends have told you Bayer Aspirin is marvelous; doctors have declared it harmless. Every druggist has it, with proven direc tions. Phone 637 EXPLORER LIKES WILLYS-KNIGHT Marked Interest Is being shown by thousands throughout the country in the new Martin John son film "Slmba" (native name for lion), which gives one of the finest portrayals of wild animal life in the Jungle of Africa and at the same time discloses the lm portant part played by a group of American automobiles In reaching hitherto unexplored regions of that vast country. Prior to the sailing of the John son expedition the noted explorer secured as part of his equipment a small fleet of Willys-Knight sixes for the purpose of carrying the party over roadless tracts In to" the Innermost depts of the Jungles. Through Wild Lands For four years Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and their scores of na tive aids work their way through almost Impenetrable wilds with the Willys-Knight sizes respond ing to all remands despite ad verse conditions. Over the track less rockbotfnd stretches, across streams, up steep mountain sides, through heavy growth of the Jun gles, the Willys-Knight sixes car rled their human freight. Day after day, month after month.-and year after year these Knight englned sixes literally beat their way through the dense for ests, blaxing new trails Into the virgin wilderness with the ex plorers In quest of wild game In their native haunts. Oars Stm ftuntnc At the end-of four years when the exploration of the Tsst Jungles came to an end, Mr. Johnson said this about the WIIlys-Knlght care which he used In the daring en terprise: "The WUlys-Knlght sixes we used throughout our expedition In African Jungles never faltered and.nevr failed and provided us with, the utmost In faithful serv ice. The Willys-Knight Is my first and only choice where the maximum of rugged strength and power la the prime requisite.'
