one of the greatest victories of
their tennis careers here today
when they crushed Henri Cochet
and Jacques Brugnon of France,
the English doubles champions,
of the courts at the Longwood
Cricket club.
The Americans, heroes of the
play against Italy in the challenge
round of the Darts cup matches,
took the replayed semi-final
straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2. There
by winning a place in tomorrow's
finals against Gerald Patterson
and Jack Hawkes. the Austral
ians, who qualified yesterday.
Lott and Hennessy played a
great game against Cochet and
Brugnon yesterday but darkness
came on when the match stood two
set four games all and they de
cided to play It over.
The Americans were in much
better form this afternoon and
gave a remarkable exhibition of
offensive and defense tennis. They
used the volley and kill effective
ly and thir lobbing, especially
against Brugnon, was overwhelm
ing.-
Though their earned points to
talled but 22 against 25 for Coch
et and Brugnon, they had but 30
errors against 63 for the French
men. During the three sets, Coch
et and Brugnon each lost four ser
vices to Hennessy's one.
