Bohrnstedt and daugh ter Miss Alberta and their guests. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bohrnstedt of Long Beach, Calif., and Earl Pem berton spent Sunday at Cascadia. Returns to South Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bohrnstedt, who hare been here for about a month visit ing at the home pf his brother, A. C. Bohrenstedt, started Monday on the return trip to their home - in Long Beach, California. Minor Operation Mrs. Henry Isherwood who resides on Laurel avenue and mother of S. H. Ish erwood, member of the Parrish Junior high faculty, submitted to a minor operation at a local hos pital Monday morning. Has "Flu" Attack James El lis, "makeup" -nan on the New Oregon Statesman, is confined to his parent's home in McMlnnville this week by an attack of influen ca. He went there over the week end and was unable to return to this city because of a severe fever. Boanl Meeting Because City Superintendent Hug is out of town, about the only business that will be transacted by the school board at its regular bi-monthly meeting this evening will be action upon bills. There will be one more regular meeting before school opens, September 24. Editor In Town H. D. Mars, editor of the Jefferson Review, was a business caller in this city yesterday. For the last eight years Mr. Mars has owned and operated the Review which recently made a forward step by moving into a new building built for the Review and another tenant. Professor Returns Professor E. C. Richards of the English de partment of Willamette univer sity and Mrs. Richards returned Sunday niglit from a four week's trip to southern California. Pro fessor and Mrs. Richards went as far south as the mission San Juan Capistrano, and visited several cities in the southern part of the state. Pratt. In Town Carol Pratt, manager of the Kappa Gamma Rho fraternity last year at Wil lamette university, is in town this week making necessary repairs and arrangements in the frater nity property preparatory to the Opening of school next month. Pratt's home is in Portland. He will be senior in Willamette dur ing the next school year. Taking Vacation Miss Ella Howard, a member of The New Oregon Statesman advertising de partment, is on a week's vacation parents whose home is at Yam trip which she will make with her hill. Miss Howard will be a sopho more at Willamette this year. She has had two years experience in advertising work and has been I busy each day since university closed this spring. Attend Missionary Meet Sev eral Salem women will go - to Portland today to attend a meet ing of the executive board of he Women's Home Missionary socie ty of the Oregon conference of 'the Methodist church. Mrs, John M. Canse of Salem is correspond ing secretary of the board. Besides Mrs. Canse, those making the trip will include Mrs.- George H. Al den, Mrs. H. M. Durkheimer, Mrs. E. C. Miller. Mrs. A. A. Underbill and Mrs. A. S, Hisey. Back From Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Chester Baker and family are home after a vacation spent in Washington and Oregon. During the first part of their vacation a trip was made to ML Rainier in Washington and upon the return the party ferried across the Co lumbia at Longriew and motored to Seaside from there going down the Roosevelt highway as far as Newport. Mr. Baker up to August 1 was foreman of The World Publishing Co. His plana are. not certain for the future although he has several openings he la now considering. Good win, who has been held in the county jail for several days on a charge of writing a cheek without having sufficient funds in the bank to cover it, was Saturday released oniail. KlwaaiaiM to Report How they won the 1929 - convention against Victoria's spirited opposi tion, will be told by members of the Salem Kiwanis Club who at tended the Aberdeen meeting last week, at today's luncheon. . To Leave Salem Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brownlee will leave Salem shortly -to make their home in Hastings, Neb. About a year ago Mr. Brownlee disposed of his farm near here for Nebraska property, and it Is to look after this that they are leaving. At Cutler City Mr. and Mrs. K. Burgard Kugel have been spending a few days at their cot tage at Cutler City, on the Sllets bay. Mr. Kugel returned to Salem the first of the week. Mrs. Kugel remaining there until after Labor Day. Bishop Will Visit Bishop Lowe of the Portland area of the Methodist church will visit the Kimbajl School of Theology to morrow. Kimball college is the only theological school In his area. Bishop Lowe will be accom panied by Mrs. Lowe and Ml3s Jane Lowe. j Must File Credentials The county superintendents orrice calls attnetion to the fact that all teachers who expect to teach in the Marion county schools this year must file, before their school starts, the reading circle certifi cate at that office. There are a number of teachers who have not yet complied with this ruling. Dr. Warner Honored Dr Estella Ford Warner, supervisor of medical service with the coun ty child health demonstration, has received word that she has been snnninted a member of .the na tional legislative committee of the V W. C. A. The appointment came as a surprise to Dr. Warner. She Is the only Oregqn representa tive on the committee-, each state having but one member. Teacher Resigns The resigna tion of Miss Audrey McCune. teacher, in the fifth graJe at Grant school, was recetvea n iub superintendent's office yesterday. Mis McCune had taugnt nere out one year. Her home is In Bend. She stated in her letter asking to h released that she expected to resume her former occupation, ac countant. No action will oe tasen on the resignation at tonight's school board meeting as Superin tendent George Hug is out or town. Wunderllch. formerly an inmate of the Oregon state in sane asylum, and Cecil Hand, who had been held for Turnan at St. Helens. Both were wanted in Eu reka to answer bad check charges. Shortly after the trio had left here, however, . some $140 was wired to Hand in care of Sheriff Bower, the amount being enough to cover the bad paper that Hand had passed In Eureka. Bower im mediately wired to Eugene and stopped Turnan and his charges there. Upon payment of the money to Turnan. Hand was released. Turnan took Wunderileh on south, with him.
