dents at the home of Dr. John O.
Hall following the forensic festi
val last week..
By graduation the university
loses four who hare been out
standing in forensic work. These
are Irene Breithaupt. Bernice Mul
vey, Charles Redding and Robert
Witty. Their places will be diffi
cult to fill.
In the new crop of men for de
bate Fred Toore, Roy Harland and
Thomas Potwin appear to be the
most promising material. Potwin
nas a younger brother that will
enter the university this fall, who
has had experiience in high school

him. Lars Nelson, Allen North
'tup and Lowell Mundorff also did
. work on the debate squad the past
year.
In women's debate Margaret
Pro and Evangeline Hall will be
the leaders for the coining year,

Edith Starrett, who has a good
record in high school debate to
her credit. Esther Lisle and
. Pearl Craig will hold over from
laet year's squad.
The questions for debate chosen
by the Pacific Coast Forensic
league for the coming year are of
wide public initerest, and it is ex
pected that Salem people will give
better .attendance to debates the
coming season than in some sea
sons paet. The questions for de
bate will be selected from among
the four following:
"Resolved: That the Russian
plan of disarmament proposed at
the Geneva conference be adopted
by all nations."
"Resolved: That a plea of tem
porary insanity in defense of crime
be prohibited by law."
"Resolved: That installment
buyiing of consumption goods be
prohibited by law."
"Resolved: That the policy in
the United States of offering high
er education to all the people
should be abandoned."
Dr. Hall has stated that most
of Willamette's debating will be
on the first two of these questions.
Pr. Hall Is taking special interest
in the second subject, as he has
made extensive study in the fields
of sociology, psychology and crim
inology. During the past two years Wil
lamette has had good teams, and
the yhave made excellent records
in competition with schools of
their own class and larger. Dr.
Hall will have considerable work
this year in training a much
changed squad, but the interest

considerable help.

camp, and tourists, appreciating
the cleanness of the camp as they
have found it, have cooperated in
keeping It clean. The toilets,
shower rooms and laundry are
ship-shape, and visitors from all
coast states are tall of praise for
them. Here and there, flower
beds have been laid oat in spare
time and it is not. surprising that
families intending to spend a night
have tarried for several days.
Tris spring all the camp stores
were rebuilt and reconditioned
with brick bases and good solid
tops. The new cabins are all full
very night. The new tenthouses,
too, are light, clean and airy. The
campers like them. The kiddies
though are best pleased with the
two creeks in which they can
wade and swim to their hearts'
contest.
The camp is rendering another
real service to the Salem district
besides that of advertising it. It
serves as an employment clearing
house. Farmers who want help
phone in their needs, and tourists
are acquainted with these needs.
If they wish to help the farmer,
they are directed to his place.
Fifty families have gone out in
this way alerady this spring, and
have been of great value in help
ing farmers save their strawberry
crops.

would protect the Rogue. Umpqua.
Deschutes and McKenzie rivers
from commercial use, were filed In
the state department here Tues
day by Edward Piaseckl. president
of the Oregon Game Protective as
social ion.
The measures have been refer
red to the attorney general and
will go before the voters at the
next general election.

serve for food and game fish pro
pagation and recreation the waters
of the Rogue, Umpqua, Deschute
and McKenzie rivers wee sent
to the attorney general of Oregon
for title today by the Oregon
game protective association. A
vote on the plan was held here
Monday.
Tributaries of the rivers men
tioned, with the exception of the
White river, a branch of the De
schutes, are include!! inthe peti
tions which seek the prevention of
any further encroachment for
purely commercial enterprises.
It is set forth in the petitions
that a maintenance of the various
