OREGON, SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 29, 1928 TWILIGHT BASEBALL STflBTS TOMORROW The complete schedule for the Industrial and half of the Com mercial league schedule of the twilight baseball league has been announced by Bob Boardman, with 17 games for the Industrial league and so far IS for the Com mercial. The Commercial league Is made up of teams representing the Elks, Eagles, Legion, Knights of Columhbus, Capital Super serv ice station and the Oregon Pulp and Paper Company. The Car penters, Portland Electric Power company. Post Office, and Han-sen-LiliJequest teams constitute the Industrial league. The Grotto, De Molay and Sherman Clay Mu sic company were denied admit tance to the league. Tht first game will be played tomorrow Bight when the Legion team will meet the Capital serTice station. As last year all games will be prkk. starting each night at 6 o'clock. The commercial league teams will play on Mondays, Wed nesdays and Friday nights, and the industrial teams will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Chet Laird, well known arbiter of this city will be official umpire at all games. Minature gold baseballs will be awarded To ech member of the twilight league champion team through the courtesy of the Anderson sporting goods store. T Now that the Oregonian tele graphic trapshoot has ended, the members of the Salem Rod and Gun club, who took fourth place honors in competition with 28 clubs from all over the state, will wind up the season with a ban quet which will be held in the White House restaurant Tuesday night, beginning promptly at 6:30 o'clock. The affair will be in charge of Cliff Parker, secretary of the club. After the banquet the members will be entertained with an inter esting program. Talks by promin ent sportsmen of thevicinity will be given. Tad Shelton. well will give an interesting talk on "Dry and Wet Fly Fishing" in the waters of this vicinity. Tad has fished in this state for the past 30 years and has made a complete study of fly fishing here. Many fish yarns will be let out by the various members of the club. It la expected that the en tire membership will attend. (AP) Peter Gavuzzi, bearded French-Italian of England, was secure in his. leadership of the bunion derby tonight after pacing a field of 72 runners on today's lap of 4 2.5 miles from East St. Louis in 5:27:30. His elapsed time of 353:28:05 for the 2128.7 miles from Los Angeles gives him a lead of 3:32:07 over Andrew Payne, of Claremore, Okla., hold er of Becond place. Allen Currier, Rogue River, Ore., covered the distance 'in 9:32:05, with an elapsed time of 456:18:29. EUGENE irons WIN STATE MEET CORVALLIS. April 28. (AP) Eugene high school today re tained the state trophy cup award ed the best typing team in the state, by taking first place in the 6ixh annual state high school con test sponsored by the Secretarial training department of Oregon State college. r Ruth Thatcher of Ashland, won the individual novice champion ship when she scored 61.6 words a minute.
