Vocifer ous protests on his part to the ef fect that lie had not been given a square deal was declared to be re sponsible in part for the severity of the punishment. During the last four days the county clerk's office at Salem was open for registration there were four extra deputies at the county clerk's office doing nothing but register voters. Kreitzer of Portland Wednesday was appointed by Governor Patterson a member of the state board of vocational edu cation. He will succeed Milton A. Miller of Portland, who resigned. Mr. Kreitzer is a director of the Oregon Building congress and president of the Pacific Northwest l Brick and Tile association. He is connected with the Columbia Brick Works, with offices in Port land. Mr. Kreltzer's term will ex pire January 1. 1929. Complaint A complaint was sworn out here yesterday by Mrs. B. Bennett, who .lives on the Portland road, charg ing J. D. Fleming of this city with I shooting at her dog. seriously in juring the animal, yesterday aft ernoon. She declares that the dog is not a dangerous animal and that Flemmlng had attempted to shoot the animal several times be fore, also shooting at chickens in that vicinity.
