The principal speaker at the convention was Bishop Eben C. Johnson of Cape town, Africa, who is at the pres ent time visiting at the home of his son In this city. Some ISO leaguers attended, SO of whom were registered from Salem. Sev eral prizes were offered for va rious contests at the convention. Gwendolyn Hertzog. of Leslie church Epworth league, won first place honors in the bibje contest. The spelling contest was . won by Bertha Lee, of Jason Lee. Jason Lee was also honored by having the most members of any one church present, having 25 mem bers represented. Officers of the Salem dfctriel for the coming year were elected as follows: President. (AP) After a recess of more than a week, the senate Teapot Dome committee will resume Its public inquiry tomorrow Into the disposi tion of the Liberty bond profits of the Continental Trading com pany. Birch Helms of New Tori, who is reported to have had oil hold ings in Texas, probably will be the principal witness but members of the committee declined to disclose the subject upon which he la to be questioned. Subpoenas were Issued for two others, Harry M. Blair and C. H. Huston, both of New York, but It was doubtful tonight whether either would appear. Blair's secretary informed the committee that Blair is now In the west while no word was received from Hus ton. It was said that Blair and Hus ton would be questioned about re publican party financing after 1920. Blair was eastern treasur er for the republican national committee, and the senate com mittee's information is that Hus ton was vice chairman of the ways and means committee of the re publican organization under Wil liam Boyce Thompson, as chair man. Senator Walsh of Montana, prosecutor for the committee, at whose Instance the subpoenas were issued, said he was not advised whether Huston is the former as sistant secretary of commerce and now one of the advisers of Secre tary Hoover in his campaign for the republican presidential nom inatlon.
