Cunningham, o' Philadelphia, - long prominen. ir the political organization built uj by Senator-elect William S. Vart of Pennsylvania. Immediately after the senate acted and there was no opposi tion to the adoption of the resolu tion of arrest John McGrain, a deputy sergeant at arms, left fo Philadelphia to serve the warrant on Cunningham, who is sheriff of Philadelphia county and treasurer of the Pennsylvania state republi can committee. The Vare "leader is sought for punishment because of his repeat-: ed refusal in 19 26 to tell the Reed slush fund committee where he re ceived the $50,000 in cash which he contributed to Vare's senator ial primary campaign fund in Jhat year. Cunningham took the posi tion that this was none of the com mittee's business, but the commit tee and the senate failed to agree with him.
