Fanny Crosby was one of the great song writers of America and is credited with composing over 7000 gospel songs and hymns. (AP) -The state convention of the Re serve Officers' association of Ore gon will be held at Astoria Satur day, September 1, Major Bargee Leonard, president, announced to day. Definite plans for the meet ing were completed at a meeting of the Astoria chapter last week which was attended by Captain J. F. Stutevoss and Major Leonard. Lieutenant E. W. McMindes, president of the chapter at Astor ia will have active charge of the plans to entertain the visiting re serve officers. The largest dele gation is expected to attend from Portland, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Henry Akin, president of the Portland chapter, and Colonel F. T. Arnold, chief of staff of the 96th division. There are approximately 600 members of the reserve officers' association in the state out of 1000 or 1100 hero who hold re serve commissions. Mar. 4. (AP) President Coolidge thinks that a tax reduction of $225,000,000 still Is possible on the present status of the treasury, but he be lieves the cut of $2S9,000,000 provided in the house bill is im possible. The possibility of any tax redue tlon at all, however, he believes, is contingent upon reasonable econ omy on the part of congress ii appropriating funds. The full tax returns for March have not yet been tabulated, but from preliminary estimates th president is confident that a tax reduction as originally advocated bv the treasury will be possible Details of the March 15 returns have been awaited by the senate finance committee as a guide tc tax reduction while keeping the house bill inactive. (APt Consolidation of Allen and Lewis Mason, Ehrman and company, and, Lang and Company, wholesah grocery concerns of this city, into one of the largest wholesale estab lishments or the Pacific coast if Ueing negotiated, it was announced officially today. Confirmation of rumors current for several dayi that such a merger was contem plated was given by Roscoe C. Nelson of the legal firm of Dey Hampson and Nelson which U working on legal details of the consolidation plan. It's a good name, he's always been careful to keep it good, and he doesn't like to have it brought into disrepute, the reverend pro tests facetiously. "I've read so much in the news papers about the criminal reeord of this Fred Taylor that it's get ting on my nerves," he declares.
