High School Banquet Given af
First Methodist Church
The high school Epworth Lea-
gue pf the First Methodist church
sponsored a banquet Friday eve
ning, January 27, in the church
. dining room.
The banquet was served by Mrs.
Vannice, Mrs. Cook. Mrs. Fessen
den and Mlas Laush, members of
the Ladles' Aid society.
Covers were placed for 85 high
school students from the various
church leagues of Salem.
Short talks were given by MHs
Oilman, Miss Helen Breithaupt,
Mr. Shanks, Fred Blatchford, and
Rev. Fred C. Taylor.
Morgan Oallaher lead the yells.
The program also included a
reading given by Miss Crites and
a violin solo played by Hestine
Hollister.
The rooms were decorated for
the evening with red and white
streamers and red tapers.

fairs will claim the attention of
the Oregon division of the Ameri
can association of university wom
en at the annual meeting In Port
land Friday and Saturday, Feb
ruary 10 and 11, it Is announced
by Miss Moselle Hair, of the ex
tension division of the University
of Oregon, who is state president
of the organization. AH sessions
will be held in the Multnomah ho
tel. Mrs. Roy Klein, president of
the Salem chapter, and others
from Salem are expected to attend
the session.
Two talks on international top
ics will be given Friday evening
it is stated. Tbrj first of these will
be given by Mrs. Melvln A. Bran
non, director of the north Pacific
section of the A. A. U. W. who will
talk on "International Interests of
the American Association of Uni
versity Women." Mrs. Brannon
has given considerable time to the
study of international relations.
She is the wife of Melvln A. Bran
non, , president of the University
of Montana.
"The United States in World
Politics: Whither?" will be the
subject of G. B. Noble, professor
of political science at Reed college.
Mr. Noble was a member of the
United States Peace Commission in
Paris 1918-1919 and is regarded
as an authority in this field.
On Saturday, following the busi
ness reports and elections of offi
cers, a round table discussion on
International topics will be held.
At the luncheon meeting, Mrs. 'A.
W. Cooper, Portland, who 1b sec
ond national vice-president of the
organization, wjll talk on the 1927
biennial convention. Mrs. Bran
non will speak on the national as
sociation and Its aims and activi
ties. In the afternoon a child study
group will take up this work un
der the direction xf Mrs. C. A.
Downs of Salem and a general
3tudy group will be formed with
Mrs. D. T. Merwin, Portland, pre
siding.
Following the session in Port
land, Mrs. Brannon will visit chap
ters over the state. Her visit to
the Salem chapter will be made on
