WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (AP)J Within a few months t the gov- l.rnment plana to save one busi ness day over the transcontinental air mail route. I W. P. McCracken Jr., assistant secretary of commerce for earon-j autics, explained the program to day in announcing that F. G.'. Hingsburg. chief of airways had! been sent out on an inspection of, he western end of the transcon-i inental route, preparatory to or-1 ganizmg tue campaign lor com plete lighting of the route from! New York to San Francisco. I At present the air mail must be i routed out of New York in the morning, with the result that the planes fly all daj, through the succeeding night Trad then through most of the succeeding day. j With the lighting completed,: the machines will leave the ter-J minals at night, continue through; the next day and night and com-i plete their trip on the dawn of the second day. The result of this will be to get most of the flying j done at night and enable to sav ing of a full business day. Captain Hingsburg plans to get: all of the lighting installed by' June 30 next. There will be 247 1 rotating electric beacons, 460 gas beacons and 112 lighted Interme diate fields along the route.
