Sponsoring Sil ver Tea For Children's Farm Home' The Salem chapter of the W. C. T. U. will sponsor a silver tea Tuesday afternoon, beginning at two-thirty o'clock, in the Union hall. South Commercial and Fer ry streets. The proceeds will be sent to the Children's Farm Home at Corval- lis to be applied to a fund being raised for the planting of several acres of fruit and nuts. Three and one-half acres will be planted to English walnuts and filberts; three and one-half acres to cher ries, apples, pears, and prunes; five acres to strawberries; and two acres to other berries and grapes. The walnuts will be planted be tween the cottages and will re quire four hundred and twenty six trees at an average cost of fifty cents a tree. The manage ment wishes to place the home on a self-supporting basis if possible. Preceding the tea a short vic tory program will be given, after which a social hour will be held The public Is urged to attend. Edison was solemnized at midnight on the eve ning of December thirty-first at St. Paul's Episcopal church. Rev. H. Dr. McCormick Will Appear at First Congregational Church Dr. J. D. McCormick will be the speaker at the seven-thirty o'clock services this evening at the First Evangelical church. His subject will be "The Land and the Book." Dr. McCormick spent the past summer traveling in Europe and in the Holy Land. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Morris are Now at Home Mr. and Mrs. Jay Morris (Grace Osborn) whose marriage took place Saturday evening. December thirty-first, are now at home to their friends at the "Peony Gar den" on the Liberty Road south of Salem. Sorority "Open House" an Event of the Week-End One of the outstanding events of the winter was the' annual "Open House" held last night by the three sororities on the, Willam ette University campus: Delta Phi, Alpha Phi Alpha.; and Beta Chi. Townspeople, students, and fac ulty member were in attendance. , Beta Chi sorority girls were 'at home" at 670 Winter street, from seven to seven-thirty o'clock. In the receiving line were Miss Louise Nunn, house president; Mrs. Alice H, Dodd, house mother; Dean and Mrs. F. M. Erickson. and Professor and Mrs. Ernest C. Richards. The aorority colors of gold and seal brown were carried out in the decoration. Mrs. Asel Eoff and Mrs. Edwin Thomas, alumnae members, pre sided at the urns of the serving table.
