Twelve seamen narrowly escaped
death In the Icy waters of Lone
Island eound Monday when heavy
seas capsized .two small boats in
which thev were attemntinp- in sal
vage a pontoon which had broken
loose riom the naval tug Iuka on
its way to the place of the sinking
of the submarine S-4.
The twelve struggled ashore
through the heavy surf and were
taken to the coast guard station at
Rocky Point, five miles away.

BULL' WILD IN STREETS
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 20.
(AP) lx persons were hurt and
thousands of shoppers terror-
stricken by a bull which ran wild
through the downtown streets for
half an hour until It was shot and
killed by a policeman.
The bull, a huge animal with 10
Inch horns, broke from a crate on
a truck parked In one ot the city's
busiest streets and went on a ram
page that. covered a dozen blocks
and left pedestrians sprawling.
Maddened by shots cautiously
fired by policemen aa It reared and
plunged through scattering men,
women and children, the animal
finally crashed through a plate
glass window and was killed by
five shots from the pistol of Cor
poral Fair stein.
