court yesterday in the suit brought
by the Riverview school against
Apkar Minasian, Kasper Minasian
and Mary Azadian. The school
district brought suit some time
ago to prevent the defendants
from using certain water rights
which It is claimed belong to the
district. The water is used to sup
ply the school. The answering de
fendants assert that they bought
the property on which the spring
is located from one George E. Col
by without knowledge of any con
flicting rights of any kind. They
indicate in their answer that they
do not want all the water coming
from the spring, but object to the

Sophomore Wins Debate
Harold Tomlinson, representing
the sophomore class, won the sec
ond interclass debate at Willam
ette university Tuesday, defeat
ing Roy Currier of the freshmen.
The debate was decided by a vote
of the neutral classes. The sub
ject was, "Resolved, that tradition
is a hindrance to progress." Tom
linson upholding the negative,
stressed the steadying values of
tradition, while the freshman
speaker contended that tradition
was the cause of wars, the evils
of liquor, and of the once preva
lent custom of putting cows in the
university chapel.

Infant Dies Here
Walter Hitchman, young son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hitchman, died
at a hospital here yesterday as a
result of burns sustained when he
fell into a pool of ecalding water
up to his waist on Sunday of this
week. The father ot the child is
connected with the railroad yards
at Reedsport, and it was therethat
the accident took place. A quantity
of fine ashes had gathered on the
surface of a pool of hot water,
with the result that the child did
