OUR LOCAL CHORUS
Tribute From Albert John

. letter was received by the
Saleni MacDowell chorus yesterday
morning from the Pacific coast
management of Mr. Arthur John
son. Mr, Johnson, was soloist with
the, chorus at the Capitol theater
last Tuesday algh. He reported
it aa an organization of which
Sales) should be very proud, hav
ing appeared with the leading
woolen's y choruses In this terri
tory, namely the Portland Mac
OowelIClnb chorus, the Tacoma
W,uj Club chorus and the Seattle
Lyric Club chorus, and that he de

pajwes. them in. many details. Of
roiir.se these choruses.-he says are
muchj larger than is possible in
Saljern and so are. able to get cer
taij effcts that a smaller chorus

VtonaJ) sheen attack, blend and all
the, Qther distinguishing features
good choral work, the Salem
chords stands very high indeed.
A Wonderful Report -
TW Is a wonderful report to re
ceive for the first chorus concert
ot the year, and it gives, encour
agement of a most valuable kind
to b& workers who went through
the training necessary to bring
euch, deserved praise. .
And it is encouraging to the
ambitions of the people of Salem
who, are. working; to make this a
muijcal center, a consummation
worh while in every way for the
cultural benefit of the capital city, I
therefore giving increased ability
o, master all other cultural
branches, and-for the commercial
advantage, for there is good busi

standing and progress makes to
