Church
The William- Penn Comrade
club of South Salem held its Father-Son
banquet .Monday night at
6:30. Forty fathers and sons sat
down to a fine feed prepared by
the ladies of the Missionary So
ciety of the Church. After enjoy
ing the banquet to the full the
time was pleasantly spent with s
program.
The Brown; brothers gave three
numbers of music with the mouth
organ and violin which were great-
andT ly aDnreciated by all. Clyde Har

in a very nleasant way. at the
same time passing along some
good thoughts to the fathers pres
ent.
L Russell Wright, director of the
Comrade club, responded , to the
toast. "If I were a son again," al
so giving the sons some things to
think about as - well as entertain
ing with his pleasantries. -
-Chaa. R. Bennett had the boys
and their fathers all cheering with
his welt drawn cartoons and the
fitting remarks which he mingled
with his drawings. Professor Roy
C. Harding gave an excellent ad
dress on the relations of co-oper
ation which should exist between
fathers and sons In modern soci
ety. The members of the Com
rade club then gave a fine exhibi
tion of. tumbling which was great
ly appreciated, by all present. Aft
er this the benediction was pro
nounced by William P. Haworth.

University of Oregon is taking no
stand In the present controversy
over whether or not the name of
the Oregon Agricultural college
shall be changed to Oregon State
college, it Is stated by Dr. James
H. Gilbert, dean of the college of
liberal arts of the university.
Reports have been noticed that
state that the university has "long
opposed the change. These re
ports are not true, it is Stated by
Karl Onthank, executive secretary!
of the university, who says that at
no time has any statement of opin
ion in the matter been made by
any one connected with the fcai-
versity. ;
Changing the name of the agri
cultural college Is a matter for its
board of regents, the governor
and the legislature, university of
ficials say. It has been noted here
that Governor Patterson indicates
that. h is opposed to the change,
since he feels that Jhe college was
created primarily to foster agri
culture, the basio industry of the
state.
Two Prohibition Agents
Arrested After Party
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 15.
(AP) Two prohibition agents
Thomas Lorsbach and William Arnold-'
were suspended from the
federal service Monday, after they
had been arrested for driving an
automobile Into a downtown gar
age and enforcing theft demand
for "snappy service" with drawn
pistols.
Arnold was charged with drunk
eness, but that charge was dismis
sed In police court and one of dis
turbing the peace, to which he
pleaded guilty, was placed against
him. He will be sentenced tomor
row. A charge In police court against
Lorsbach was dismissed.
THUMB INJURED
INDEPENDENCE, Nov. 15.
(Special) Clyde Cross, the 13-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert
Cross, met with a painful accident
when he was struck with a hoe
completely severing the cord of his
right thumb. Dr. Knott was
called and several stitches were
required to close the wound.
