a magazine published by the State Chamber of Commerce, says:
i ("People say that Salem is most conservative and contented.! But they are
progressive, also At a reecnt city election citizens voted $950,000 for the
building of new concrete bridges, construction of adequate sewers, an incin
erator and for greater fire protection.
?'That is what I call progress. So when you hear that Salem is a conserva
tive city, just remember that we are building new schools, whole blocks of
business houses, new churches, and now we have $950,000 for general civic
improvement; ,
ij'Too conservative?, I should say not." .
