The Capitol City Beddinjr Cctl are now open for b
"ilainess in their new $30,000 plant. SaJem people will
recall that this institution was destroyed by fire abou
t four months ago. Today it is bigger and better, than
ever. Brand new machinery of the latest type has be
en installed. New selling territory is about to be taken
over, more employees have been added and altogeth
er a, bright outlook is in sight for this enterprising
concern. . , '. . .; . ;-,
As might be understood from the firm name, th ,
is concern is a mattress factory, turning1 out mattresses
of all llinds and quality..; Their big business, in the sa'
' les : department, is , not the higher priced mattresses,
however. The cheaper, cotton mattre'sses form the b
. u?k of their business. This is beeaues of the large
number of logging camps, auto camps, rooming hous
es that buy the cheaper quality.
Renovating old mattresses is also a big departm
ent of their business. People who have paid a big
price for an all wool mattress do not like to throw it a
way after the covering has become worn or the wool
matted. This firm will. take, such a mattress,, tear out
the matted wool, throw away the old cover, and turn
you back mattress identical with the one purchased i
n the beginning The charge for this service is about
$8.00. ;-, 8
The new building has been built ?of fire proof co
lr Si;;;
nstruction throughout and is divided into three units.
The, front of the building is given over, to an office;.; II
ext to the office is the maim- work? room- whene the
mattresses are made. From five to six carloads of w-
ool knd cotton are kept on' hand in the store 'room all
the time. The piant has a capacity of 60 mattresses : :
a day, employing 11 people. .. 4 ir r
This factory was established in 1919 by Its "pre '
nt wners. Dona Paulin, president of the corporation,
came-to Salem in that year from Spokane where he h'
ad been superintendent for the biggest- mattress fac- '
tory on the coast, the Carmen atanufacturing Co. H
e associated himself with E. W Muller and these two
men own the plant. Mrs. Muller has been taken into t
he business a vice president.
Their business has been confined to Oregon in th
e past, but the first of thef year will see them estab-.
lished in the states' of Washington and Montana,
Wehger Bros., local building contractors, had the cant
ract for constructing the plant. The list of those who
furfiished the materials follows r v -" i a
