the Newton Motor Co., has re
turned, from a hunting trip with
party of friends at Cow Creek
canyon. There were seven rifle
men and the hunt netted 11 deer.

gun club, modestly admits that he

Carpenters Hurt In Fall
William Yarnell and Frank
Cheney, carpenters, suffered ser
ious injuries Tuesday when a
scaffold on which they ' were
working crashed to the ground.
Mr. Yarnell suffered a broken
arm, lacerations and bruises,
while; Mr. Cheney sustained a
fracture of the leg. :!

Solomon islands in the south west
ern Pacific ocean, told of addition
al attacks on foreigners, including
whites there. 1 '
A Chinese was murdered by a
Malaita laborer on one of the is
lands. "A fatal attack by a native
laborer from Malaita island on a
white overseer on another lonely
island 4s reported. In a third case
a Malaita laborer bit off the fin
ger of an employer's handj It was
not stated whether the employer
is white.
White, settlers have become
alarmed, and urge an investiga
tion.

tain George F4 Gillitz, of the Co-1
lumbia river pilots for a period of
30 days was -ordered tpday by the
Oregon state- board of pilot com
missioners on the concluding con
sideration of the case of the
steamer West NivaTla, which
struck and damaged the Sanborn
dock at Astoria, September 3. Cap
tain Gilliz was pilot of the vessel.
