family over the week end. airs.
Goodwin and Jean Goodwin re
turned with him to Portland on

ney Bell, the well-known artist,
sketching around this vicinity.
Mr. Bell has been able to put on
canvas many, of the wonderful

abounds.
The Rev. Mr. Presay, of the
Episcopal church of Baker, had
the misfortune of looking too long
at a glorious sunset the other
day. He did not notice, there
fore, that the wheels of his car

couple of weeks were Arthur Hill
and his sister, Mrs. Jerome Bear
and daughters Virginia and Dona
Marie. Mr. Bear makes up the
Jolly party.

and Mrs. E. R. B. Hollenstead
of Fairview and Mr. Hefty, of
Simonton & Hefty, who are oper
ating the Clatsop county crusher
and have the contract for gravel
ing a portion . of the Roosevelt
highway in Tillamook county.
It Is now possible to drive
through Wheeler and Brighton
to Rockaway; a very short de
tour is necessary, but the road
is easily travelable; part of it is
over the new grade.
Mrs. Jennie Porter and daugh
ter Dfris of Portland, with their
guest rat Lynch are at Wakanda

Captain Harms of the Portland

Mrs. Paul Emerick and baby
Paul, and. Mr. and Mrs. George
W. Page of Gresham occupied
the Hill cottage for the past fort
night. Mrs. Chas. II . Hageman of
Portland, and son, are the guests
of Mrs. B. Cline for a week.
- Word was received ' from Miss
Ada Werner, Portland school
teacher, and owner of several cot
tages at Manzanita beach, that
she had a wonderful trip , from
Portland to New York via the
Panama Canal. Miss Werner is
now visiting eastern relatives and
will return west in time to spend
a few days at Manzanita beiore
the next school -term starts.

are Mr. and Mrs. A. J. John, and
Mrs. A. Fox. all of Portland, and
J. F. Roy and family of McMinn
ville. Ore.
Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Stretcher
and family of Portland are the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander
of Rellwood, at Dun Wandrun
Mr. and Mrs. J. Benson, and
two young sons are .stopping for
two weeks at Pinewood cottage
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Moodie left
for Portland Tuesday. Mrs
Moodie has been at her beach
home here for about a month, and
Mr. Moodie joined her there last
week. Mrs. L. M. Feltz ,of Port
land was Mrs., Moodie's guest for
a week or more. The Moodie
home which was formerly the Lane
residence, has undergone very ex
tensive improvements and is now
the most attractive residence at
the bach. Mr. Moodie plans to
be down here part of the winter

Portland, being residents of the
Lake Grove region, are spending

' Beach parties and bonfires have
been popular this week at New
port, the sand dunes are a popular-resting
place and many people
are taking advantage of the sun
baths biking and fishing, and ag
ate hunting are taking first places.
The agate shops are busy and
turning out some very pretty fin-ished-work.

George Davenport of Yaquina
caught a 160 pound sturgeon this
week between South each and
Yaquina. This is the largest
fish so far caught this year in. the
bay.
George McAlexander caught a
32 pound Ling cod on the Wy
this week. ' 1
A great niany'seals have been
oen this week fn the surf - near
the shore line.
There will be a three day cele
bration and picnic at Monterpy
beach on the ; third, fourth and
fifth, or September given by the
Four L. A barbecue -will be one
or the main features and man
