During the day every fisherman puts his gear In his boat and sta tions himself 'at the spot be has selected for bis station for tbe sea son. ' ;, I Some spots are more coveted than' others as being fine fishing grounds, and there Is a great race during' the day to first arrive "at the best stations. - . .. AtrHoon last "Monday ' some twenty boats hajL already 'spotted their sites and were lazily riding at anchor waiMng- f or' the opening honr of six o'clock in tbe evening. ; The thrill of witnessing tbe first evening's commercial fishing is hot soon forgotten -the river and bay are dotted with fights, the nets are out and breathlessly the men await tbe, outcome of the first day's, catch. There Is plenty of salmon this year and the catch was good.. . " ; During the month of August the Sibley, cottage, Is occupied by Rev. and Mrs. A. Caldwell of Spokane. Other Spokane folk fiere for" a week or two are Miss -Matthews, and.Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Windle, Mrs. Fred M. Goodwin and Jane Goodwin are spending the month of August at their beach home, and have as their guest Miss Su san Graves of Kaufman. Texas. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Frey and children of Philadelphia, Pa., are spending a few weeks here; they praise the scenery of this Oregon beach resort and like the Paelflc ocean. At the Merton for a week or more are Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Mil ler of Portland, and Mrs. Miller's father, Mr. B. S. Sweetland. ' The auto park has been popular this, past, week:, Air. and , Mrs. James Goodman of Monmouth in stalled their camp and will prob ably remain the balance ot, the season. New cottages are being built in considerable numbers this season; a building restriction keeps out the smaller type of structures, This week M. Jassman, J. Griffith, and J. M. Bunter's new cottages were started. , Deep sea fishing parties are pop ular: Dr. Frank Lutz, Jos. Ross, G. Adamshek of Wheeler, W. Sims of Nehalem. together with the Misses Vivain Tohl. Geraldine Van Groos and Ho Brown were on a deep sea fishing party last Sunday. Ronald Van Groos accompanied them.
