Official Count Shows
Complete official returns of the
recent special election rfs canvass
ed by the secretary of state show
that the state Income tax measure
was defeated by . a majority of
19.294 of the votes cast.
A total of 48,745 . votes, were
cast In favor of the measure while
67,039 votes were cast against the
measure. .-' V .
- Only four, of the various, meas
ures and constitutional amend
ments referred to the voters were
approved. These included repeal
of the negro. Chinaman and mu
latto suffrage section of the con
stitution,: Portland school district
tax levy amendment, criminal In
formation amendment and voters
registration amendment. .

panies have obligingly left strips
of timber along the highways, but
elsewhere the denuding of the

stated that 50 persons are em
ployed in the office and 75 in the
shops here, making this one of the
