BLOW AGAINST AVERSION
TO RACE SEEN BY JEWS
(Continued from page 1)
pathy in- America.
The Jewish Morning Forward
said Jews of America would re
ceive the development with un
bounded satisfaction, adding Mr.
Ford's frank and courageous re
pudiation "will have a tremendous
effect in undoing the harm that
has been done."
Louis Marshall, president of the
American Jewish committee, made
public through the Jewish Tele
graphic agency, the text of his
letter .to Mr. Ford on July 5, ac
cepting the manufacturer's formal
statement, as substantially, closing
the matter.
Negotiations Under Way
"It is my hope," wrote Mr.
Marshall, "that never again shall
such a recrudence of ancient super
stitution manifest itself upon our
horizon.."
Aaron Sapiro, in Saskatoon,
Canada, acknowledged that negoti
ations were under way to drop his
$1,000,000 libel suit, and express
ed conviction that' Ford's an
nouncement "of the abandonment
of the attacks of the Dearborn In
dependent against the Jews will
do much to lessen the harm that
has been done."
The Sapiro suit was declared a
mistrial in its first trial, and was
scon to come to trial again.

Following - publication r of Mr. ;
Ford's statement. It developed 'to
day that counsel for Aaron Sapiro,
who has a $1,000,000 libel suit
pending against -the automobile
manufacturer had been active in
negotiations that tied to its issu
ance. .
William Henry Gallagher, chfet
counsel for 'Sapiro, said at his Of
fices here 'that the negotiations
had been under way for some time
and that Walter F. Lynch of Chi
cago, law associate of Mr. Sapiro,
had been here for a fortnight in
connection with the Ford state
ment. . Gallagher added that he
"confidently expects" settlement
out of court of the Sapiro suit. .
The possibility that a suit filed
against Mr. Ford by Herman Bern
stein, New York writer, might al
so be affected Iff the Ford repudiav
tion, was seen jn the ract that
Louis Marshall. New York attor
ney, who holds the original signed
statement of Mr. Ford, is counsel
for Bernstein.
While Mr. Gallagher was voic
ing thefexpectar.on that the Sapiro
suit would be settled out of court
and that Mr. Ford's statement gave
Mr. Sapiro the vindication ' he
sought. Stewart Hanley of local
counsel for Ford, said that so far
as he knows,! there was no con
nection between the statement and
the libel suit. '
"The date on which to begin the .
re-trial of this case was argued aa
recently as July 1, before Judge
Fred M, Raymond, in United
States district court," Mr. Hanley
said. "He sot September 12, and
as far as I know the case will go
to trial at that time."
