Commercial Salem Polk Jail Breaker Caught at Hiding Place in Salem William Mattox, who escaped from the Polk county jail on May 9, wu captured Monday evening in Salem by Officers Olson and Smart, after they had trailed his wife to his hiding place in a bouse at Capitol and Norway streets. Matton was serving time on two liquor charges- at the time of his escape, working out two fines of $500 and $275. When he was informed that Boiling field at Washington was under water due to the day long downfall he announced that the flight was definitely off until tomorrow.
