Calles later received Information
that about half of them had es
caped. The presidential ' office
also received reports that ' three
or four Catholic priests had led
the attacking party r characterized
by the government as rebels,
numbering a little more than 200.
The railroad authorities were
of the belief that the train car
ried from 100 to 200 passengers
and their estimates were that be
tween 100 and 160 persons were
killed or Injured. ;
Former President Obregon's

of an armyiofficer. Colonel Ponce
Leon, is reported among the dead
or Injured. No Americans are
known to .have been on the train.
' Believed Revolutionist
There is a belief current in
Mexico City that' the outrage was
the work of revolutionists, as was
the case in the recent attack on
a Laredo-Mexico City train to dis
credit the Calles administration
as much as possible, both at home
and abroad, and focussing foreign
attention on the revolutionary
conditions in Mexico.
Relief train and troops have
been rushed to the scene of the
holdup and the survivors have
been taken to Trapuato.

VISITORS EXPECTED-
local Committee Making
. Plans for Entertainment h
During Encampment 5 1
From 1200 to 150O visitors will
come to Salem June 21 and re
main here several days to attend
the annual, state encampment of
the Grand Army off the Republic
and affiliated bodies, acocrding to
the anonuncement of Charles
Fessenden, chairman of the com
mittee on arrangements.
This visitors will-include .not
only members of the GAR -who
served during the Civil war.
which ended 62 years a go .at Ap
pomattox. but also members of
the Ladies of the GAR, Women's
Relief Corps, Sons and Daughters
of Veterans and Spanish War Vet
erans and auxiliary bodies.
Special efofrts will be made to
entertain members of the GAR
and affiliated bodietf. This will
perhaps include a barbecue and
program at the state fair, grounds,
in addition to other entertain
ment To secure funds to properly en
tertain the veterans, a committee
has been apppointed. This com
mittee will be in charge of D. G.
Drager and Walter It. Stolz, who
win solicit during the next few
days. '
The entertainment and care
given the visitors will depend
largely upon the generosity with
which the committee in charge of
securing funds is received. As it
is 62 years or more since the
veterans served and as the ranks
of the GAR is rapidly growing
smaller, the annual encampment
this year is perhaps the last en
campment; that will be attended
by ,many of the old time veterans.
