State officials said this question Was determined Dy tne courts a number or years ago when . a suit was launched to enjoin a county from contracting a debt in excess of 65000V The courts held in this case that the county had - authority 'to contract the obligation for the reason that it was warranted by law. It was said that this decision of the courts would apply in the proceed ing which.it Is proposed to tile. At the next session of the legis lature a bill probably will be in troduced ' by the state board of control authorizing the purchase of property and erection of. a building to house the state print ing department. . The state print- ery now. occupies half of the low er floor of the supreme court structure. It was said that a building adequate for the needs of the state printing department could be erected for $50,000. This would release considerable floor space in 'the supreme court build ing., and. at the same time im prove the facilities of the printing department. The plans for . the new office building are , bein prepared by Knighton & Howell, Portland ar chitects.
