Anniversary Wednesday
A group of out-of-town people
spend Wednesday, April 6, in Sa
lem to assist Dr. Verne L. Hamir-
ton In the celebration of his birth
day anniversary.
The day was spent on the golf
links at the Illihee Country club.
At 7 o'clock Mrs. Hamilton enter
tained with a birthday dinner at
the Hamilton home at 515 North
Summer street. An Easter decor
ative scheme was used through
out.

hydrangea gave the chief decora
tive moitf in the room. The flower
was awarded to Mr. and Mrs Ralph
Glover as the first prize.

Club Is Held on Wednesday
at First Methodist Church
A committee of three, Mrs. W.
J. Linfoot, Mrs. Heine and Mrs
Kimple, took charge of the excel
lent program which was a feature
of the April meeting of the Da
kota club on Wednesday evening
at the First Methodist church.
The program opened with T. S.
MacKenzie leading in the singing
of "America."
Mrs. Kimple's "kitchen orches
tra" made its initial appearance at
this time, after which T. S. Mac
Kenzie sang two especially enjoy
able numbers, with Miss Margaret
Lewis accompaning.

of the popular Phelps-Chase trio,
gave a reading. Mrs. W. J. Lin
foot sang two Scotch songs, "The
Hills of Bye," and "Laddie."
Mr. Crary gave the appreciated
reading, "The Empry Wood box."
Miss Naomi Phelps, soprano
member of the Phelps-Chase trio,
which has pleased innumerable
audiences, eang a group of seven
old-fashioned songs In costume.
She was accompanied at the piano
by her mother, Mrs. Ethel Poling
Phelps.
Mrs. Chane completed the trio
with her musical reading, "The
Little Red Cradle."
The Moriarity family gave in
teresting orchestra numbers. Six
members of the family participate
in this worthy organization.
On Tuesday, April 19, Mrs. W.
J. Linfoot will entertain the ladies
of the group. The next club event
wijl be on Wednesday, May 4.

committee of six from the Leslie
Can-Do class took charge of the
meeting. Those assisting in this
manner were Mrs. J. Willard De
Yoe, Mrs. Ivan Corner, Mrs. Fran
cis Hoeleth, Mrs. F. M. Haberman,
Mrs. James Cran and Mrs. Wayne
Greenwood.
The church parlors were lavish
ly decorated with many bowls and
baskets of white and yellow spring
flowers.
A beautiful centerpiece of jon
quils and narcissi was arranged
on the tea table. Mrs. B. F. Pound
and Mrs. F. M. Haberman presided
at the urns.
Especially delicious were the
home made cakes, of which a large
variety were served. A table full
' of the cakes was sold at the close
of the meeting. Orders are being
taken for the confection.
Fifty members attended the
meeting.

Planned for Woman's Club
In addition to the annual nom
ination of officers, the meeting of
the Salem Woman's club on Satur
day will feature a talk by A. C.
Hyman, superintendent of the
Children's Farm Home, near Cor
vallis, and a film series on meth
ods of combatting diphtheria.
Mrs. F. A. Elliott, general chair
man of the public welfare depart
ment, will have charge of the
child health demonstration film on
the old and new ways of fighting
diphtheria.
