Scholl yesterday went to the
Rev. Father Bede, priest at St.
Peter's' Roman Catholic church.
and told of the killings.
Scholl, unarmed, offered no re
sistance when the officers rushed
the house at the address supplied
by Father Bede.
Without display of emotion or
remorse he told of the killings.
The children's mother died
some five years ago, he said, and
after his second wife left him re
cently, he feared the children
would suffer for lack of a mother's
care.
He declared he had intended to
kill himself, but that Father Bede
had dissuaded him.

An investigation today of rum
crs and confessions of convicts
tending to link Nathan F. Leo
pold Jr. with two prison deliver
ies and plans for the wholesale
poisoning of penitentiary guards
as an incident of a. third collosal
prison break, brought an official
statement of exoneration.
At the same time Hjalmar Rabn,
state's attorney, announced that
the facts of the jail delivery of
last Saturday, when three Mexi
cans under death sentence broke
out, would be laid before the
county grand jury Monday.
The day brought no positive de
velopment in the search for Ber
nardo Roa, the only one of the
prison breakers to remain at large.
Twenty Mexicans rounded up in
Chicago were freed in police court.
The three Mexicans and four
Americans killed Peter Klein,
deputy warden, last Mqy in his of
fice in the prison's solitary cell
house at a time when Leopold was
confined there for stealing sugar.
Six of the seven were recaptured
within a short time and sentenced
to death.

Foss-Hinps. acetiert of wholesale
barter in infants in connection
with the alleged operation of a
"baby farm" in Los Angeles coun
ty, will be arraigned here tomor
row on a felony charge.
She is specifically charged with
"infringement of personal liberty,
or attempting to assume owner
ship of persons."
The charge is based on the' case
of "Baby Hines," whom Mrs. Foss
is alleged to have obtained
through adoption and later spld
for $60.

Autopsy Surgeon A. F. Wagner
tonight admitted that he had made
an analysis of the contents of
Rofhwell's stomach which was re
moved before the body was cre
mated last Monday. The report
of his findings have been made
secretly to Nance, who tonight
was on his way to Sacramento.
"I do not like to discuss the
subject' Pr. Wagner is quoted
as saying, "but we have the right
to find out the cause of death and
that is what we are doing. The
death certificate has not been
signed. It would appear that
death probably was -aued by
natural causes but this will not
be definitely known until the re
port is finally made out and
signed."

LOS ANGELES, March 16.
(AP) The Examiner says an of
ficial Investigation into the death
of Walter Henry Rothwell, direc
tor of the Los Angeles Philhar
monic orchestra for eight years, is
under way. Rothwell died sud
denly last Saturday while driving
his automobile.
The investigation was launched
by Coroner Frank A. Nance fol
lowfng an autopsy. At the time
of Rothwell's death it was report
ed that he suffered a heart at
tack. The death certificate has
