AU Scouts to Hike-- All members of the seven Boy Scout troops in Salem are expected to participate in a hike planned for Saturday forenoon, Scout Ex ecutive Harold D. Ware announced Tuesday. Each boy will bring food tc be cooked at noon. They will hike to the scout reserve in Polk county,' three and one-half miles out on the Glen Creek road. Tests in scouting will be conducted on the trip. The group will leave from the Center street end of the Marion-Polk county bridge. All boysx up to 16 years of age are eligible to com pete. FIF1 ACTIVE MINISTRY Rev. John W. Knott, Aged 90 Years, .Passed Away Here Yesterday Rev. John Wilson Knott, fath er of Dr. Geo C. Knott, Inde pendence, and of Robert A. Knott of. Ketchum, Idaho, and W. Le Roy Knott of Chicago, and Mrs. E. F. Allen of Salt Lake City, died yesterday morning in the Meth odist old people's home in Salem, following a protracted illness. , Rev. Knott was born in Indiana March 26, 1839, and was there fore approaching bJs 91st year. , He was graduated from McCor mick theological seminary in Chi cago in 1867. He filled pastor ates of Presbyterian churches in the central states. for many years, coming to Oregon 18 years ago. He was pastor of the Presbyter ian church at Yoncalla .Douglas county, Oregon, for several years. He came to Independence and Sa lem three years ago. For over 50 years he had been In the active ministry. The funeral services will be held under the direction of A. L. Keeney, undertaker. Indepen dence, at the Calvary Presbyter Ian church in that city on Thurs day, March 3, at 130 p. m. Rev. F. C. Becker, pastor of that church, will have charge, assisted by Dr, Chas.
